Daily Sales & Cash Reconciliation

A daily close should explain how the sales total relates to cash, mobile payments, credit sales and authorised differences.

Use one agreed closing period

Set the shift or business-day boundary and identify who closes each till. Separate the opening float from sales collections. A cash sale, customer debt collection and cash expense are not the same transaction.

Your working checklist

  • Compare cashier sales with cash and confirmed payment records.
  • Review refunds, discounts and credit sales separately.
  • Investigate unmatched mobile receipts and pending payments.
  • Record the variance, explanation and reviewer sign-off.

Put it into practice

Do not force every discrepancy into a stock or cash adjustment. First check timing, incorrect payment methods and unallocated customer receipts. Use the cashier dashboard as a starting point and retain the underlying evidence.
