Managing Credit Sales & Customer Debtors

Credit sales need clear ownership from account creation to payment allocation and follow-up.

Agree the terms before the sale

Identify the customer, approved credit terms and the person authorised to grant exceptions. Reconcile opening balances before migration so a new system does not inherit unexplained debts.

Your working checklist

  • Review overdue balances before further credit.
  • Allocate each receipt to the right customer and invoice reference.
  • Send statements and record collection commitments.
  • Escalate disputed invoices with supporting documents.

Put it into practice

Ageing measures time outstanding; it does not establish collectability by itself. Separate disputes, unapplied receipts and genuinely overdue debts. Ask the Crystal team to show the customer balance and ageing screens using a partial-payment example.
