Controlling Stock Transfers Between Branches

A transfer needs agreement between the sending location, the receiving location and the records used for review.

Keep movement and receipt connected

Define who requests, dispatches and receives stock. Use a transfer reference, count at dispatch and count again on arrival. Agree how goods in transit are represented in your configured system.

Your working checklist

  • Confirm item codes and units at both locations.
  • Record dispatched quantities and transport evidence.
  • Investigate shortages or damage before closing the transfer.
  • Review old unconfirmed transfers and repeated variances.

Put it into practice

A physical movement without a recorded transfer can make one branch appear short and another overstocked. Ask to see the stock-transfer screen with a partial receipt or discrepancy example. Agree the exception procedure before rollout.
